Eight Excellent Tips When Packing Your Stuff For A Move

They say that moving time can be one of the most stressful times in a person's life, and I started believing it after I graduated college and received a job offer on the other side of the country!. I had lived in my parents house for my entire life other than when I was away at college just an hour from home! After a brief burst of anxiety, I realized that I would miss out on my job opportunity if I didn't start getting ready to move quickly. With help from a friend who had recently moved, the process was much more simple than I expected. I am so grateful for her help that I want to "pay it back" by sharing my moving tips, along with a few good ones she gave me, on a blog! I hope I can help make your move simple!

Eight Excellent Tips When Packing Your Stuff For A Move

Moving can be a big job, but there are a few things that you can do to make packing a bit easier. Talk with moving companies when planning your move to obtain the necessary supplies, such as boxes, and to ensure you will have help on the day that you need to relocate.

Eight excellent, time-saving tips when packing your stuff for a move are:

1. Use your clothing as padding. Use your clothes as padding for breakable items. For instance, socks are a great way to wrap glassware and breakables—just make sure the socks are clean!

2. Fill your boxes. Never leave dead space in your moving boxes. This can cause the items that are inside to bounce around, increasing the risk of items getting broken.

3. Pack stuff inside other stuff. Try to pack stuff inside of other stuff; this will reduce the number of overall items to lug, though they may be a bit heavier. This also will help to protect delicate items from getting broken.

4. Get rid of whatever you can. Make moving the time to declutter and give things away. The fewer items you need to move, the better. Donate items to local thrift stores to reduce your load, and clean out before moving into your new place.

5. Invest in a furniture dolly. If you plan on moving furniture, invest in a dolly. These are not expensive, usually under a hundred bucks, and they can save a lot of time, hassle, and back pain!

6. Work by room. Work by room rather than item. For example, box everything up in the bathroom, from towels to shampoo, in a box that is labeled 'bathroom.' This makes it much easier to unpack what you need first in your new digs.

7. Heavy stuff goes on the bottom. Pack your heavier items on the bottom, and lighter belongings on top. Plan on packing apparel on the top of heavier objects to pad, but also to fit in odd-shaped spaces without wasting space in your packed boxes.

8. Clarify insurance terms with your mover. Talk to your mover to make sure you are covered by the moving company's insurance when you pack stuff yourself. If their insurance dictates that they have to pack your stuff, you won't want to waste your time packing boxes that will need to be repacked by your mover.

Use these tips to help make packing for your move easier and more efficient. Talk with moving companies for specifics and to book them for your upcoming move.
