3 Tools To Help You Pack, Store, And Move Bedding And Other Linens

No matter if you are relocating to the other side of the country or buying a home in your same city, moving can be a long, stressful process. Thankfully, proper organization and planning can help make your move to a new home more efficient and easier. When it comes to packing up your belongings, you most likely will feel overwhelmed. Considering your bedding and linens are important items for your home and family's needs, placing extra emphasis on your mattresses, sheets, comforters, quilts, and towels is imperative. With this list of must-haves, you will be able to pack, store, and move your mattresses, bedding, and other linens.

Washer and Dryer

You may be wondering what your washer and dryer have to do with packing up linens, but it is actually a preparation key. While shocking to learn, fungi, pollen, animal dander, soil, lint, bacteria, and all sorts of bodily excrements can be found in your bedding. Because of this dust, bacteria, and harmful residue, you must wash and dry your bedding before packing.

Wash sheets, comforters, pillow cases, blankets, and even mattress covers using hot water and detergent. Consider adding a small amount of vinegar to each wash cycle, as well. Vinegar contains acidic properties, which are antibacterial and antiviral. The hot water and detergent is strong enough to clean and remove debris, but the addition of vinegar will ensure your bedding is free from parasites, germs, and bacteria.

Throwing your mattress and box spring into the wash is not possible, but you can make sure it is cleaned and ready for your move.

To get started, remove all linens and sprinkle a box of baking soda across both the mattress and foundation. Allow the baking soda to sit for a few minutes before vacuuming the top, sides, and bottom of both the mattress and box spring. The baking soda kills dust mites while reducing odors that may be lingering in the bed.

Vacuum Bags

Many people choose to throw blankets, comforters, sheets, pillows, and towels in large trash bags, since these are affordable and readily available in most homes. While effective, these bags can become very large and difficult to move and store.

Constructed out of nylon or polyester material, these durable bags allow you to store bulkier items, such as blankets and pillows, in a way that will save space. In addition, these bags keep your linens safe from dust, pests, and other debris that can be harmful.

To use, place a few blankets or sheets into one bag. You can also place one or more quilts or comforters into a larger-sized bag. Insert the hose from your vacuum attachment into the hole on the bag and power the vacuum on. Allow the vacuum to run until all the air has been removed from the bag. Then, place the bag's valve cap on.

Repeat the process for a group of each of your bed linens and towels. Then, gather all of the bagged linens together to move and store without using a great deal of space.

Climate-Controlled Storage

Renting a storage unit is a great idea for many reasons. Not only will it allow you a space to clear belongings out of your home while trying to sell it, but it also enables you to store items long term when you are going through the moving process.

Unfortunately, storing certain items in a regular storage unit can be dangerous. Wood, cardboard, photos, albums, leather, and linens should not be stored in a unit that is too hot, too cold, or too humid. Climate-controlled units allow you to store these delicate items without the worry of discoloration, fading, or pests that can ruin your belongings.

Climate-controlled storage will keep your unit at a healthy temperature, which is above freezing, but below 90 degrees. This will also maintain a healthy humidity level of around 55 percent, so there is less risk of damage, discoloration, pests, and mold to your mattresses, quilts, comforters, sheets, and towels.

Most households have numerous bedroom and bathroom linens, so it is easy to see how packing and moving these items can be stressful. With these tools, you can move your bedding and linens effectively and efficiently. Check out sites like http://www.wheatonworldwide.com for even more moving tips.
