Tips To Help You Pack Everything When Moving

They say that moving time can be one of the most stressful times in a person's life, and I started believing it after I graduated college and received a job offer on the other side of the country!. I had lived in my parents house for my entire life other than when I was away at college just an hour from home! After a brief burst of anxiety, I realized that I would miss out on my job opportunity if I didn't start getting ready to move quickly. With help from a friend who had recently moved, the process was much more simple than I expected. I am so grateful for her help that I want to "pay it back" by sharing my moving tips, along with a few good ones she gave me, on a blog! I hope I can help make your move simple!

Tips To Help You Pack Everything When Moving

There is nothing as disappointing as arriving at a new home only to realize that you didn't pack everything. Maybe you forgot a tool in the garden or equipment you had loaned out to a neighbor. Below are some tips you can use to ensure you pack everything necessary when moving house.

Start Early

Start packing as early as possible if you don't want to forget anything. An early start gives you the opportunity to gather everything, including items you might have loaned out to your friends or taken to repair shops. If you leave everything to the last minute, you will be in a rush, and forgetting things while in a rush is almost a guarantee. The more you have to pack the earlier you should start. For example, for a whole-house move, you should start weeks in advance, at the very least.

Create an Inventory

You also need to create an inventory and tick things off the list one by one as you pack them. Creating an inventory will force you to think about everything you want to carry, especially if you are not carrying everything.

Involve Everyone

If you are moving with some people, for example in a whole-house move, then it's a good idea to involve them from the beginning. Involve your kids and your partner in the planning, in the inventory creation, and even in the packing. You reduce the risk of forgetting something that way because someone may remember something another person might forget. Say someone loaned out a garden tool to a neighbor; if you involve that person in the planning, they are likely to remember the garden tool.

Pack Systematically

Another helpful tip is to pack systematically, say, room by room. Start with the nonessential rooms and move your way to the rooms you have to use on a daily basis. For example, you can pack the garage, living room, bedroom, and kitchen in that order. You are more likely to forget things if you jump from room to room while packing.

Label Moving Boxes

Lastly, you should label your moving boxes as you pack. That is, the minute you are done with a box, label it before moving to the next box. That way you won't be struggling to remember the items you have packed and those you haven't packed at the end of the packing session.

Don't forget that many moving companies also offer packing services and materials at a fee. Paying for packing services ensures that all your belongings are safely packed by professionals.
